I almost always use double-walled glasses for cocktails. Bodum is the known brand, but my Bodum glasses all broke pretty easily; I’ve gone with Sun’s Tea brand since, which uses heavier glass. They insulate well and don’t sweat.

I have a couple of double wall glasses, but I don't generally prefer them. I tend towards my Nick and Noras and rocks glasses. I also usually keep a small selection in the freezer to chill them.

I appreciate the opening paragraph. I love the idea of "the best X is the one you have" mentality. We recently inherited (read: guilt-tripped into taking) some crystalware. I didn't really want it, but now that I have it, I want to use it almost as often as I can. Why reserve the fancy stuff for important meals?

I like to stress that I’m a geek, not a snob. I hate the idea of gatekeeping or looking down on someone for some imagined faux pas (“How dare they serve me a Martini in a rocks glass!”). The point of good cocktails is companionship, friendship, taste, and good times. Not making someone better than anyone else.

Out of curiosity, did the set include a decanter? I also have a crystal set that I rarely use, but the decanter has been repurposed into an infinity whiskey bottle (which I suppose I should write up a piece about).

That's a great way to put it, being a geek, not a snob.

I'm not sure if there was a decanter or not. A lot of it was packed up already. We've had a busy few weeks, and I haven't unpacked it yet at the house. We also acquired some Tiffany crystal candle holders.

I used it quite frequently during the craft beer boom. Look, if you want to drink a light lager, that’s fine. I do it quite frequently (albeit from craft breweries instead of Bud/Miller/Coors). There’s no reason to mock my beer, nor for me to mock yours.

I think a lot of hobbies fall into this. Let's just all be happy to enjoy a beer, or a cigar, or a watch, or a camera, without arguing which is the best. I think it's a sad side-effect of social media. We all think our taste is much more sophisticated than everyone else's. My favorite meme is the bell curve meme that shows beginners and pros enjoying the same option, with everyone else fighting over the nitty-gritty in the middle. But sometimes I think you have to get lost in the middle to find out that nothing really matters, and what's important is simply enjoying what you like, however you wish.

There is no best item out there, it's all trade offs and preferences. For some items, I push back. I want my key lime pie made with canned milk, I want my Palomas made with pop, that's the origin. That's what they're supposed to be.

I won't even get into trash comfort food. 😀
